Melbourne Vixens to take on Collingwood Magpies at BSEC

Billed as the “Ballarat Battle”, the season warm-up on Sunday, April 5, will be the first elite netball game played at the Ballarat Sports and Events Centre.

The Vixens are using it as their final hit out in Victoria before the Super Netball season proper begins on May 2.

Netball Victoria chief executive officer Rosie King said she was excited to again see the Vixens taking one of their pre-season games to a new regional hub, having had a pre-season fixture in Bendigo last year.

“Taking elite netball to regional towns is such a great opportunity not only for the players to meet the fans, who usually travel to see the Vixens play during the season, but also for young netball players to be able to see what is possible to achieve through our Victorian netball pathway,” she said.

“We had a fantastic turnout in Bendigo.

“We are hoping the Ballarat community will show as much enthusiasm when the Vixens and the Magpies play again this year, and enjoy the new netball facilities right on their doorstep,” King said.

Vixens head coach Simone McKinnis said it would be a crucial on-court hit out.

“This pre-season match will give us another chance to really connect as a team and further test combinations and dynamics.”

The game will be played at 1pm, with a curtain-raiser to be organised for 11am.

“Ballarat Battle” tickets go on sale on Friday via Ticketek, with 2020 Vixens members receiving 10 per cent discount.
